Lotus buys Caterham cars

Team Lotus Enterprise- which runs the Lotus F1 team – has purchased British sportscar maker Caterham Cars.

Tony Fernandes, Kamarudin Meranun and SM Nasarudin, owners of the Team Lotus Formula One team bought the company from a shareholder consortium led by company Corven Ventures.

Lotus said that they will continue development of the Seven sports car and will provide Caterham a “platform to apply its philosophy of ‘adding lightness’ to exciting new models for the 21st Century”.

Managing Director, Ansar Ali said they will look to grow the brand in all markets across the globe, including Australia.

“This is yet another exciting chapter in the Caterham story,” Ali said.

“Until now, the resources Caterham has had at its disposal have, naturally, limited the exposure of the Caterham experience and the legendary Seven has had to rely almost entirely on its remarkable reputation and legacy.

“We will remain entirely true to the philosophy that we, as custodians of one man’s motoring concept, have protected for nearly 40 years.
