FRANKLIN, Tenn./PRNewswire/ — Eleven of the world’s most desirable cars lined up side-by-side. Legendary marques and iconic nameplates – Porsche 911, Corvette Z06, Ford Mustang Boss 302, Ferrari 458 Italia and Audi R8 GT, to name just a few – assembled by the editors of Motor Trend for an informal, bragging rights-only drag race as a sidebar to its 2011 Best Driver’s Car award, announced on motortrend.com today, and cover story for the November issue of Motor Trend magazine. Eleven cars, one shot, one winner: the legendary Nissan GT-R.

(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20110912/CL66348)

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20080506/NISSANBADGELOGO)

In what the magazine bills as the world’s biggest drag race, the competitors featured a combined 82 cylinders and nearly 5,000 horsepower – wrapped in $1.5 million of beautifully sculpted aluminum, fiberglass and carbon fiber skins. And the revised 2012 Nissan GT-R, now featuring 530 horsepower and 448 lb-ft of torque, beat them all.

“We applaud Motor Trend’s editors for pulling off the automotive equivalent of the running of the bulls,” said Brian Carolin, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. “Win or lose, it’s great fun and a great video – especially since we won.”

The $89,950 Nissan GT-R was followed across the quarter-mile finish line by the $225,325 Ferrari 458 Italia and the $198,600 Audi R8 GT. “In all fairness, if we were running for pink slips, we would have had to bring at least two GT-Rs to match the cost of the competitors,” added Carolin. “We’ll settle for the title of baddest of the bad.”

About the Event

Contenders were selected by the editors of Motor Trend as part of their “Best Driver’s Car” (BDC) competition – and one of the biggest, most expensive single stories the magazine has ever executed. The supercars were considered among the best sports cars in the world. Unless all-new or significantly revised, previous entrants were not allowed to participate. Vehicles were run at factory recommended settings, with standard or factory optional equipment. The drag race portion was filmed on a closed course at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in El Toro, California.

“We launched the new Versa Sedan from a position of strength, with Versa holding a substantial lead in sub-compact sales for the 2011 calendar year, and August sales up 14.9% over the previous year,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. ”It’s encouraging to see the tremendous dealer and consumer response to the all-new Versa Sedan design, keeping Versa’s momentum going in this highly competitive market segment.”

The marketing campaign for Versa, which just launched in late August, is based on a simple premise: “The Most _____ Per Dollar.” The long list of “mosts,” which includes most legroom, most headroom, most trunk room and most innovation, now adds one other – helping Versa achieve the most sub-compact segment sales in its first full month of availability.

Along with its many segment-leading features, including more rear seat legroom than even the Lexus LS460, BMW 5-series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the 2012 Nissan Versa Sedan has the lowest starting M.S.R.P. in America at just $10,990.

The Versa Sedan delivers 30 miles per gallon in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. In the all-important EPA rating for combined fuel economy – the most relevant to consumers – Versa delivers 33 miles per gallon. This is achieved in part through innovative technologies such as its dual injector system that burns cleaner and uses less fuel than a conventional injector design, and a smooth, efficient next-generation compact Nissan Xtronic CVT™ (Continuously Variable Transmission).

“The launch has been seamless with ample inventory arriving in dealerships and our new marketing just kicking in this month, we’re looking forward to Versa’s sales winning streak to continue for a long time to come,” added Castignetti.

If you had a classic British car around you know how hard it is find any replacement parts in the US as it usually it means importing the expensive parts from the UK. However, two British car enthusiasts from Michigan, Brian Thornton and Keith Leigh-Monstevens, have made it easier for you as they have established Heritage Spares, a distributor for North America of AP Braking (used to be known as AP Lockheed) breaks and clutch replacement parts.

“By reintroducing genuine AP brake and clutch replacement parts to the U.S. and Canada, we are providing the British car enthusiast with the optimal maintenance or restoration solution – the ability to fit factory specified, original equipment replacement parts to their cars,” said Brian Thornton, president and vice president of sales and marketing for Heritage Spares.

The following parts are available:

Heritage Spares customers will have access to: front and rear brake drums; calipers; remote and direct acting servos; single and tandem master cylinders; brake valves; repair kits; brake hoses; wheel cylinders; clutch master cylinders; clutch slave cylinders; clutch hoses; and clutch dampers. The parts will be applicable to models spanning the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s for several of England’s classic brands, including: Austin; Austin-Healey; BMC; Jaguar; Land Rover; Mini; MG; Morgan; Morris; Riley; and Triumph.

If you have any doubts to their credibility as British car experts from North America, then it would be wise to know that Leigh-Monstevens spent 40 years in AP companies, including AP Braking as its chief engineer. Know that you are dealing with people who live and breath British cars.
