London (dpa) – The Mini John Cooper Works GP was unveiled publicly for the first time at Le Castellert in France recently, with a limited run of 2,000 cars to be built both for the road and racetrack.

Part of the testing programme, in preparation for series production, included the clocking an impressive fastest lap time for a Mini at the Nuerburgring’s Nordschleife racing circuit in Germany, according to a press release.

The Mini John Cooper Works GP lapped the erstwhile Grand Prix course in 8 minutes 23 seconds, beating the lap time set by its predecessor, the Mini Cooper S with John Cooper Works GP Kit, by almost 19 seconds.

From the exterior, the car comes with large front and rear aprons, striking side skirts, and a bespoke roof spoiler. A newly developed rear diffuser optimises airflow around the underbody.

The interior of the Mini John Cooper Works GP also contributes to the car’s racing feel. With the rear seats removed, it focuses on the basic needs of the driver and co-driver.

Racing full speed ahead from Monday 21 September, Johnnie Walker Global Responsible Drinking Ambassador, Mika Hakkinen will jump-start a week of Johnnie Walker events at 300kph in the JOIN THE PACT Supercar. The Flying Finn will put the pedal to the metal in the Johnnie Walker JOIN THE PACT Supercar to highlight the importance of nominating a designated driver on a night out.

In the Supercar, a high performance two-seat sports car, Mika will be able to offer a few lucky consumers and selected VIPs the ride of their lives. Those not lucky enough to win a ride in the Supercar can still catch the action at Changi Exhibition Centre as a spectator from 11:00am-1:00pm.
