Checklist for returning a rental car

Posted by: Auto Buff  /  Category: Car Maintenance Tips, Car News

When renting a car there are a few things you need to be informed about. Of course one of the most important things is to compare car hire companies to ensure you get the best deal for the car you want. You also need to ensure that you don?t incur any further costs on returning the vehicle. Here, we’ve created a checklist to help you make sure the drop off of the vehicle is as smooth as the pick up process:

Give yourself plenty of time

Make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to be able to return the vehicle and make your ?ight, train or other form of transport. Allow time for you to be waiting so you are not in a rush. You may have to wait while the car is being checked, not to mention the fact that you can’t guarantee there won’t be other people trying to return vehicles at the same time.

Returning hours

If you have a ?ight that is late at night, con?rm with the car rental company that you can return the vehicle slightly before this time. You may have to pay for an extra day to return the car after hours.

Re-fueling if required

If you hired the car on a full tank of petrol and are required to return it in the same way, make sure you do this. Some companies will allow you to pay for the petrol and not have to actually ?ll up, it just depends on the service provider.

Check the car over

Double check the car over for any major problems which you may have to inform the company about on returning the vehicle. If you found that there was a problem with the car while you were driving it, simply inform them so they can follow it up and have it ?xed before someone else hires it.

Ensure that nothing is left behind

Go over the entire car including under the seats more than once to make sure you don’t leave anything important behind. The glovebox and any pockets in the seats should also be double checked to make sure you haven’t left any important personal documents behind such as your driver’s license.

Con?rm who you are returning the car to

This may seem obvious but it can be easy when you are in a rush to hand the keys over to someone who asks for them. Double check the person you are talking to works for the car rental company.

Whether you have already booked your rental vehicle or are still looking for the best car hire Melbourne has to offer, it’s important to keep in mind the above check points when returning your hire car. It will not only ensure that you don?t incur any further fees from the hire company but it will also make sure that the next person that rents that particular vehicle, will too have a pleasant experience.

Chevrolet to Increase Volt Production Capacity by 50 Percent

Posted by: Auto Buff  /  Category: Eco-friendly Cars, General Motors

General Motors today said that thanks to strong public interest in the Chevrolet Volt, the 340-mile extended range electric vehicle, it will increase U.S. production capacity of the groundbreaking new car by 50 percent, from 30,000 units to 45,000 units, in 2012.

The announcement came as U.S. President Barack Obama toured the Detroit-Hamtramck facility, where the Volt is being produced now for sale later this year.

The Volt offers a total driving range of about 340 miles and is powered by electricity at all times. For up to the first 40 miles, the vehicle drives gas- and tailpipe-emissions-free using electricity stored in its 16-kWh lithium-ion battery. When the Volt’s battery runs low, a gas-powered, engine/generator seamlessly operates to extend the driving range another 300 miles on a full tank.
