Beijing (dpa) – The new Volkswagen Lavida, based on the Passat, made its debut at the China Motor Show with a completely restyled body reflecting the current VW design.
The Lavida is being offered in three engine versions and four equipment lines. The base version already comes equipped with such standard safety features as ABS, ESP and front air bags. Read more…
SEOUL (Reuters) – South Korean carmaker Kia Motors said on Friday that it expected to exceed this year’s sales target of 2.71 million vehicles, after posting better-than-expected sales in the first quarter driven by the United States, Europe and China.
Joo Woo-jeong, head of Kia’s Financial Management Group, also told analysts that it expected to launch the K3 – a fully revamped version of its popular compact Forte – around September. Read more…
FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Daimler’s flagship luxury brand Mercedes-Benz expects it will at least keep pace with the 15-20 percent growth of the overall premium car market in China this year, its chief executive said.

Stuttgart (dpa) – The brand name Denza has been chosen for a new joint venture electric car being created by Germany’s Daimler and BYD of China, Daimler announced in Stuttgart.
Designed as a China-only marque, few details are known about the five-door Denza which is set to spearhead a range of affordable electromobiles. It is thought that first model will be based on the first generation Mercedes B model, which was originally designed to take batteries. Read more…

BEIJING (Xinhua) — Japanese automaker Toyota will recall 426 Lexus RX300 cars sold to China due to glitches in crankshaft pulleys, China’s quality watchdog said Wednesday.
The recall, effective Dec. 1, targets the Lexus RX300 produced between June 1, 2004 to March 31, 2005, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine said in a statement on its website. Read more…
