The uncompromising dynamism of the bike prototype is fully visible at first sight. “When developing the Audi e-bike Worthersee we drew on motor racing design principles for inspiration,” explains Hendrik Schaefers, one of the designers at Concept Design Studio Munich. “The e-bike appears incredibly precise, highly emotional and strictly functional. Indeed, the design effort focused on its function as a sports machine. All design elements are thus firmly aligned to the technical features.”

The airy frame boasts a low center of gravity and a compact overall volume. In this way, the e- bike is superbly agile at the sporty handling limits. The lithium-ion battery is incorporated into the frame and needs 2.5 hours to fully charge. On long trial tours, only a few simple steps are required to remove the battery and replace it with a charged one.

The revolutionary vehicle has a sophisticated propulsion system, including an extended range of up to 360 miles. Voted the Car of the Year 2012, Vauxhall Ampera delivers between 25-50 miles of battery-powered electric drive with zero tailpipe emissions while driving. Customers wanting to use the electric vehicle on longer trips can do so with the Ampera’s on-board range-extending engine which helps to sustain the battery life, allowing the car to be used on distances of up to 360 miles in a single journey. A small 1.4-litre petrol-fuelled engine/generator runs at optimum efficiency, generating enough electricity to power the electric motor (but not the wheels) and operates seamlessly as part of the Ampera’s powertrain. The Hertz Corporation (NYSE: HTZ) has announced that Hertz On Demand, Hertz’s global car sharing club, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Chargemaster plc, the UK’s premier supplier of electric vehicle charging solutions. The parties are in discussions to launch the operation of an electric vehicle (EV) car share scheme in Oxford, England.

The program is designed to appeal to residents, visitors, and business people, who will be able to reserve and drive a conveniently located electric vehicle by the hour, day or week from http://www.hertzondemand.co.uk. The hourly rates will start from GBP5 (pounds sterling) and include in-car access to the Member Care Center, insurance, roadside assistance, maintenance, and cleaning. Membership in Hertz On Demand is free and will entitle members to use the operator’s other car clubs in the US, Europe and China.

The charging network is supported by the Oxford Electric Vehicle Partnership (OEVP) led by Oxford Brookes University.

The Oxford charging network is part of the national electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure known as POLAR, and currently being rolled out by Chargemaster Plc.

The last 5 years saw the cost of congestion in Europe almost triple and go up from approximately 63 Billion Euros in 2006 to 200 Billion Euros in 2011. Automakers around the world are working towards developing new vehicle models to alleviate mobility in urban areas. But they also need support from governments and local authorities to align their future mobility vision, products and services toward customers’ unmet needs.

The impact of urbanisation, the growth of mega-cities and the change in the consumer’s demand for mobility services will be at the heart of Frost & Sullivan’s upcoming 2012 conference entitled ‘Urban Mobility 3.0: OEMs New Mobility Offerings and New Business Models Linking Web 2.0′, taking place in London on 13th and 14th June.

Day one of the conference, taking place at the House of Lords in the House of Parliament, will facilitate a debate to promote thinking, in industry and in government, about contrasting future mobility scenarios: On one side, those in favour of the development of more sustainable personal transport (i.e. cars), on the other, those in favour of developing integrated multi-modal public transport. Each panel will discuss the future of mobility within their transport mode and attempt to prove why, where and how government policies should support their industry.
