Beijing (dpa) – Mercedes presented at the Beijing Motor Show a luxury Viano show car featuring a two-tone exterior paint job with a fine shimmering gold line painted by hand separating the two body colours of black and diamond white.

Interior appointments include a special multimedia unit that allows passengers to choose between a business setting or a comfortable ambience for relaxing. The windows of the passenger compartment, as well as the rear window and the glass partition between the chauffeur and the passenger compartment, are all equipped with the Magic Sky Control system, which enables passengers to change the interior lighting conditions with just the push of a button.

FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Daimler’s flagship luxury brand Mercedes-Benz expects it will at least keep pace with the 15-20 percent growth of the overall premium car market in China this year, its chief executive said.

China is the key growth driver for companies like BMW and Mercedes. Volkswagen’s Audi counts China as its single largest market, responsible for a quarter of its volumes.

Stuttgart (dpa) – Mercedes-Benz’s new hybrid E Class will go on sale in Germany in both saloon and estate version from this autumn, marking a first for the Stuttgart-based manufacturer. The T-badged estate car will be the first diesel-electric shooting brake to debut at home and Mercedes-Benz is hailing both variants of the E300 BlueTech hybrid as the most economical luxury-class vehicles in the world.

Stuttgart (dpa) – Mercedes is working on a super lightweight E-Class carbon fibre model that could be on the road in 2015 powered by a 50 hp electric motor and a 150 hp hydrogen engine, the German Autobild newspaper reports.

The lightweight E-Class would have a weight of 1,300 kilogrammes, some 350 kilogrammes lighter than the current model, according to the report. Read more…

Stuttgart (dpa) – Only 50 years after the invention of the motor car, the very first diesel-engined automobile, the Mercedes 260 D, took to the road with the qualities that still apply today – low fuel consumption and durability.

The diesel engine itself is much older and first made its appearance at the end of the 19th century, mainly in trucks, ships and locomotives. It was a long road from there for Mercedes in persuading motorists to switch to diesel. Read more…

BERLIN (Xinhua) — The world leading luxury automobile producer Daimler got a strong boost in demand from domestic market in August, with its sales volume of Mercedes-Benz cars keeping on rise.

The sales of Mercedes-Benz cars totaled up to 87,384 in numbers in August, 2011, up by 7.9 percent year-on-year.
