It can be quite confusing when it comes to buying a car or getting it services with all of the different terms that you just know are important but their meaning has never really been explained. Here is a guide to some of the more common words and acronyms you may come across, such as when you are looking for car insurance quotes or looking over an inspection report from your mechanic.

ABS: This is antilock braking, which essentially stops your car from skidding when the brakes are slammed on, such as in an emergency. It helps pull the car up in the shortest possible distance without losing traction and is also highly effective on loose surfaces, such as gravel, and roads made slippery by ice and rain.

ESC: Stands for Electronic Stability Control and its job is to keep the vehicle stable during sudden manoeuvres. It uses sensors which then apply subtle pressure to individual brakes to prevent the car from fish-tailing and losing control. It is also effective on gravel and slippery surfaces.

TCS: This stands for Traction Control System and is another automated safety feature on some modern cars which helps keep control in sudden situations. Essentially ECS measures wheel rotation and can adjust power or braking when it senses the car is losing traction, especially on loose and slippery surfaces.

EFI: Electronic Fuel Injection has replaced carburettors as the way fuel is delivered to engines. It is a more efficient system and its benefits include smoother acceleration, better engine response and improved fuel efficiency because it injects atomised fuel into the engine.

2WD, 4WD, AWD, FWD, RWD: It can be a little confusing when you see all of these but all they are doing is telling you which wheels drive the car. 2WD is two-wheel drive, 4WD is four-wheel drive; AWD is all-wheel drive (not to be confused with 4WD as the front and rear wheels do not have equal drive all the time); FWD is front-wheel drive; and RWD is rear-wheel drive. All have their benefits and in different vehicles and situations.

A/C: Otherwise known as air-conditioning, it’s what keeps you cool in summer! Running the A/C in your can increases fuel consumption, so it’s worth using it only when it’s really needed. It can also be used in winter – if the windscreen is fogged up, turn on the A/C using the vents that put air directly onto the windscreen and it will clear in no time at all.

GPS: This is the most popular after-market gizmo in cars these days and stands for Global Positioning System. It is also known as sat nav or in-car navigation. Using preloaded maps and satellites, it can be used to plot routes and pinpoint your location. Be warned though – they are a popular target for thieves, so make sure if you have one it can included on your car insurance policy.

kW, Nm: These two are a measurement of an engine’s power and torque. The power is measured in kilowatts (kW) and is usually seen as a figure such as 145kW, which represents how much power it produces (this measurement replaced the old horsepower). Torque, which is the car’s low-down grunt that gives it the ability to tow and tackle tough terrain, is measured in Newton metres (Nm) and is also represented by a figure (340Nm). In both of these cases, the higher the number, the more power or torque there is.

ANCAP Safety Rating: This is used in Australia to measure how safe a vehicle is. All new vehicles undergo an ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) crash test and are given a star rating out of five – the higher the rating, the safer the car. It takes into account such things as structural integrity, airbags, antilock braking and traction control.

DailyMarkets.com, a personal finance website based in New York that helps consumers save smarter and invest smarter, has just released 7 tips to help U.S. consumers find the best and cheapest car insurance rates available in the market, so that they can benefit from the best insurance policies that are available in the particular state they live in.

Car insurance is one of the types of insurance that most Americans have and that many of DailyMarkets.com’s readers are interested in. The reason for this is that car insurance is required by law all over the U.S., even though the specific terms and car insurance requirements differ from state to state according to the local laws. For this reason, DailyMarkets.com has released these tips in its new insurance section, along with its new search tool to compare insurance rates.

“Since many people don’t understand too much about car insurance or insurance in general, they end up having to pay more for fewer insurance benefits than they could get elsewhere,” says Grace Cheng, CEO and founder of DailyMarkets.com. “Understanding about insurance and knowing how to find the best and cheapest quotes is crucial these days since the economy is in a downturn and cutting down on expenses is imperative in order to save up some extra cash.”

DailyMarkets.com has compiled a list of the 7 best tips for getting cheap car insurance quotes. For example, to compare insurance quotes, DailyMarkets.com has a search tool that readers can use to find the best insurance rates in the state they live in, be it for life, health, home or car insurance.

“Car insurance premiums can be reduced if you take some time to shop around before renewal time,” says Grace Cheng. “By using our car insurance quotes search box, you can gain access to several major insurers and get quotes at the same time. This will save you a lot of time and money.”

Also, paying for your insurance yearly instead of monthly is a tip that can save customers money, as the 12 monthly payments during a year usually adds up to more than what the annual payment would be if they paid it all at once. Other tips such as increasing the deductible and combining multiple vehicles under one car insurance policy will also help consumers save more money on their car insurance policy.

Along with the insurance section, DailyMarkets.com also aims to educate consumers about credit cards. In the Credit Card Reviews section, consumers can see the star ratings of credit cards, read reviews and then apply for cards online.

Consumers who wish to earn rewards on their everyday spending will find the Rewards Credit Cards section useful. In this section they will find the best credit cards with the biggest signing bonus offers, which can be redeemed for hotel stays, airfare and much more.

Another helpful tool that is unique to DailyMarkets.com is the compare credit cards search wizard which allows consumers to find the best credit cards that cater to their needs by just typing in a few details about their current spending habits. Consumers wishing to find cards with the best rewards, the lowest interest rates, or the lowest balance transfer fees will find this search wizard particularly useful.

About DailyMarkets.com
DailyMarkets.com is a consumer personal finance and investing site founded in 2008 by Grace Cheng who was named as one of the ‘new kids in cyberspace’ by Financial Times in 2007. In addition to educating consumers about investing and trading, DailyMarkets.com is also dedicated to helping consumers understand more about credit cards and helping them find the best credit card for their needs. Its comprehensive credit card section is perfect for consumers to browse through the different categories of credit card offers such as 0% balance transfer cards, rewards credit cards, business credit cards, and many others – all of which are direct from banks and card issuers themselves. You can also check out DailyMarkets.com’s list of Best Credit Cards 2011. A new insurance section has also been added to DailyMarkets.com to help consumers find the best insurance plan for their individual needs. For more information, visit DailyMarkets.com. (PRWeb)

Let’s face it- Modern motorists have to work hard to save any money at all on their cars. Parking, fuel and just staying on the road are very expensive. Drivers have to go looking for the best car service and the best car insurance. They have to try to fit a car budget into basic living expenses, which some people have likened to having an extra child in the family. So you can’t really hold it against people trying to get a new car when they want to get their purchase prices down by trying to haggle with the car dealers.

There’s a major hurdle, though. Car dealers aren’t charities. They’re in business. They have to make money. Those are their issues, and if you don’t understand that, you’ll get absolutely nowhere. If you want to haggle, you have to haggle with a close eye on realistic deals, not just pure optimism. Most dealers will shut down if they think you want an unreasonable price or a deal that’s just too good to be true.

Basic deal making issues

Getting a good deal in any kind of business is very much like negotiation and mediation in business. It takes two. You need to be aware of the dealer’s bottom line, and limitations. You also need to be sensitive when you start getting negative feedback.

There’s a simple way of understanding dealing with car dealers:

Try to put yourself in the dealer’s position for a while- You don’t know the dealer’s dollar values, but you can take a pretty good shot at figuring out what’s realistic by looking at their advertised deals.

If they’re offering really good deals, their margins are excellent, they’re probably doing promotional deals, and there’s probably some good room to maneuver.

If they’re offering “take it or leave it” deals, they’re unlikely to move much on prices or options.

“Extras” are based on what’s available. The dealer’s not being nasty by refusing to consider these things.

The mainstream name brands are a lot more likely to generate good deals. These are high volume vehicles where dealers can pick up good prices.

Negotiating with dealers

There’s an old saying from Aesop- “Negotiate from a position of strength”. As a buyer, your positions of strength are actually two positions- You have money to spend, and it’s the dealer’s job to make sales.

You can do yourself a big favour by bringing these two elements together when doing business with a car dealer:

Set a limit on your spending and quote a figure. The dealer doesn’t need to be told much more to figure out the sort of deals they can offer. They will come up with something.

Make it clear you really are a genuine buyer. This will get a very quick response. Forget about “I’m just browsing”. Cut to the chase and make it clear you mean business if you get the right deal.

Don’t nitpick. Also make it clear you really must have a good deal, but are prepared to listen to genuinely good deals.

Follow those basic rules, and you’ll be online getting your car insurance in about an hour.

If you want to compare many different Florida automobile insurance available to you, ascertain where you plan to obtain car insurance, provide your details, be sure that the information you provide is correct, and look at various factors.

Lots of people find it perplexing to compare automobile insurance plans. If you’re from Florida, the least that you need to consider when searching for Florida Insurance Quotes is adequate protection for personal injuries and also property or home damage accountability. Nonetheless, every single insurance provider offers different rates depending on the organization’s experience, the claim payments it encounters and also the expenses it incurs. For this reason, it is essential that you really shop and look into numerous auto insurance firms and come up with a comparison just before you decide to purchase. Here are the guidelines that you need to follow if you want to evaluate Florida automobile insurance:

Ascertain where you would like to get auto insurance

Florida residents may prefer to get their automobile insurance either from a coverage group or perhaps from an agent. Different insurance companies are represented by agencies. Sales representatives are usually properly trained to be able to give an review of a customer’s insurance needs and also, in turn, deliver competitive auto insurance quotations. Within the state of Florida, prospects may pick national companies or local insurers to provide them insurance coverage.

Provide your information

Asking for insurance quotes begins with a registration process in which you will be asked to provide details that the company requires. Each company may need fairly different details depending on their legal criteria or the process they use. You may be required to include information such as your real age, marital status, sexual category as well as home ownership. There are certain details that the organization is restricted to inquire about like the candidate’s religion and also ethnic background. Different insurance providers will consider the different factors and details that you provide.

Be sure that the information you provide is complete

Evaluating car insurance quotes entails matching the candidate’s case with the perfect firm. The insurance coverage carrier will need various details from you to create a real quote and not merely an estimated quotation. Depending on your personal information and other important information including your vehicle record and insurance coverage claim background, you will be sorted into a ranking group. The organization usually uses a computerized ranking system which will process the information you entered yourself or by the agent handling your registration. The insurance firm will then offer you an automobile insurance quotation that factors in the group that you had been sorted into. You have to provide complete details or else you will end up with a meaningless quotation or perhaps a rate that is certainly far from what is actually true for your situation.

Look at many different factors

After getting the information you need, you can start comparing the various quotations. Do not just select the company that provides the least expensive quote. You should look at several other factors like the credibility and status the organizations you are considering. You can check out if a firm has recorded complaints at the State Insurance office and also look at the length of time the insurance company has been operating. You can also utilize tools like car insurance comparison Internet sites.

Like buying any type of insurance, it’s always wise to scout around and find the best deal for your money.

When you’re paying for car insurance, you like to think you’re properly covered and that someone’s paying attention to your needs. When you’re paying for car service, you like to think that the people doing the service can at least explain in some known language what the issues are. If you’ve ever been in the position of feeling like a tennis ball going between your car insurer and your car service people about a claim, you’ll know that that’s an experience you can happily do without.

Well, is that so unreasonable? Car insurance claims aren’t supposed to be some sort of mystic ritual. Yet, it happens, and motorists are left trying to figure out why their car repair seems to be some sort of mystery to the people supposed to be paying for it. It’s bad enough having the issues of car repairs without having a further problem or several created by someone short changing you on the insurance cover.

There are two elements in this equation:

The car insurer: If you’ve checked out some car insurance policies, you may have spent a few pleasant hours wading through almost incomprehensible language detailing policy cover. This enchanting experience is often made worse by ringing up and asking for explanations, which are frequently also clear as mud.

This is old style insurance at its worst. If you’re under 50, you may not know that the old paper technology insurance was a horror story for many motorists. You may also not know that these fossils were simply transferred into electronic form when digital technology came along. The result is that the old style policies are still around, still making life difficult for motorists. That’s also the likely reason you’ve found yourself behind the eight ball when getting cover for bona fide repairs.

The car service company: To be fair, the best car service companies aren’t the problem. The only real issues are likely to occur with lower quality service companies which may or may not be acting in your interests. There’s no good reason why a car service bill should be anything other than 100% clear and easy to relate to car insurance cover.

The time to start getting suspicious about your car service is when the car insurer clearly doesn’t trust the car service information.

The probable reasons are:

Overcharging- Not exactly unknown, and always expensive. The insurer may actually be worried about legitimate cost issues.

Anomalies between claim and charges- This is a problem that may arise when the car service “volunteers” to do extra work not related to the claim. In theory this is doing you a favour, in practice it’s adding to charges. The insurer should come back to you and explain any issues, so you can get a revised bill for services which reflect actual costs related to the claim.

The solution

Don’t guess about your car insurance claim problems, do something about them. The best option for motorists is to get the new online car insurance, which is a paperless process, very fast and extremely efficient. There’s no bureaucracy, no weird old policies and you get the help you need on the spot, either online or by phone. You’ll get results and keep your costs down.

Car insurance can actually be a tricky business, and you might want to consider more than price when you are selecting. There are a whole range of situations that may occur that are out of your control and you don’t want to be penalised for that. There are many articles telling you what to consider when choosing your insurance, but here are some more little details that are discussed less, but in actual fact, they are very important.

Rating protection. One of the first things that you want to as when getting car insurance quotes, is in relation to your rating. If you are not at fault and you are in an accident and you make a claim, you don’t want to have your own rating increase just because you made a claim. This can have a big impact on your insurance costs later. If someone does a sudden u-turn in front of you, it doesn’t matter how good a driver you are, you might not have been able to avoid the crash. We all know there are some real lunatics out there on the road, and we don’t want to be penalised because of them.

Options. What will you do in the case that you are waiting for a payout on your car that has been destroyed in a crash? What happens while you are waiting for your car to be fixed? How will you continue to get to work and live your life normally during this process. Will you lose income now because you don’t have a car? Just importantly as having your car replaced, or fixed, is having a car while you are waiting. Will your policy pay for and arrange a hire car for your use while you go through this situation. This is extremely important and often over looked.

Choice of repairer. Some insurance companies might have recommended repairers for good reason, and others might because they deliver so-called repairs at reduced cost. Meaning that you car comes back not how it should be and then you are involved in more time wasting than originally required. Do you have a choice so that you know that you are getting the best job for YOUR car? Something worth considering. Not all of us are out to defraud the insurance company.

Understand the No Claim Bonus. Each company may have different definitions of what this really means. Some companies may even take this off you because they had to interact with the insurance company of the driver at fault. It is important to understand the definitions and terminology in your particular contract, or the one that you are deciding on. Don’t think that the terminology in all contracts has the exact same meaning. This is a big point that many people get themselves into trouble with.

Other damage? There are a variety of situations that you need to think about. What happens if you accidentally crash into your own garage? Will the cost of the garage also be covered? Might sound like a ridiculous question now, but when it happens you will wish that you knew.

Insurance is tricky at the best of times, and other than checking every detail of a contract or agreement that you are intending to sign, look beyond price, and particularly look at reputation – what others have experienced will go a long way to letting you know. Our world of the internet gives anyone ample opportunity to spread their good and bad experiences.

Car insurance insurance fraud and fraudulent claims end up costing everyone more money. The cost of those excessive or dishonest claims get put back onto the rest of us – the consumers. In the heat and shock of an accident, many of us can make simple mistakes that cost us a lot when it comes to getting the claim that we deserve. This is unfortunate but true. You should consider this when you are involved with your insurance and you see suspicious activities. Here are some tips and advice.

Call your car insurance company right away. Your insurance company will most probably offer assistance at the scene of an accident. Dishonest tactics may get you into trouble or may have impact on your claim. By contacting your insurance company immediately at the scene of the accident, they should be able to advise or arrange the tow-truck for you, or sending you to a preferred car repair or work shop. They may even be able to assist with your transport out of the situation. Some will go as far as to help you contact friends and family.

Preferred repairers. While getting car insurance quotes, get information on what companies they recommend or are preferred to fix and look after your car. Remember there are companies out there that will make excessive fixes to your car when they have the chance to abuse an insurance claim. Unfortunately this is the truth. You should know which companies that you should take your car to in the case of needed repair. Understand the process and procedure your provider would like you to follow.

Be wary! Of towing companies that appear at an accident scene. Some tow-truck drivers, also known as “chasers”, work with vehicle repair shops, rehabilitation centres, paralegals, lawyers and are paid referral fees. It might not be in your best interest to opt for their assistance because they are at the scene. Remember in the heat of the moment, and under pressure you might make the wrong decisions that will have a poor reflection on your claim outcome.

If you are injured. Keep detailed records of your medical treatments, including all doctors names, dates and locations. You should check these records against your statements from your insurance provider. If there are discrepancies, you know there are problems. Be the first to raise the alarm bell.

Read carefully. Make sure that you read any document that someone may ask you to sign. That includes doctors, lawyers, tow-truck drivers and the police. Anything you sign may have significant impact on your genuine claim and your integrity.

It is all too easy to make the wrong decisions in a situation of crisis. Small decisions or signatures in the wrong place at the wrong time could cause you a lot of hassle in the future. This is why it is important to arm yourself with knowledge before anything happens. A good insurer will talk with you about these processes. The more that you know, the more you are likely to remember when something goes wrong.

To find out if an auto insurance company has a good history, you can do a research at your state’s insurance department, check out customer ratings, and look into credit ratings.

Aside from considering the prices and insurance coverage, you also need to look at an auto insurance company’s history in order to make sure of its competence. It is important that the company you choose is financially sound and is able to serve you when the time comes that you file your claims. Here are reliable ways by which you can find out about a certain car insurance company’s history:

Do a research at your state’s insurance department

Your state’s Department of Insurance does not only ensure that insurance-related laws are being complied to by insurance companies; it also gives customers pertinent information needed to help purchase the right insurance policy from the right insurance company. With regards to auto insurance, you are provided with a list of car insurance companies licensed to operate in your state along with their company profile, location, contact information, license status, and complaint history. In the complaint history, you will find the total number of complaints being filed against an insurance company per year, as well as the categories they belong to, such as complaints found to require corrective action, complaints found to be without merit, complaints with other outcomes, and justified complaints. If applicable, it also shows the number of violations and the types of violations committed by an insurance company in the past. The complaint history also shows a comparison data, which illustrates a company’s complaint share in the total auto insurance industry. All these information will help you analyze how an insurance company has been performing over the past few years in the industry.

Check out customer ratings

Another way to learn if a prospective insurance company has good history, is to check on customer ratings. Some trusted firms, such as J.D. Power Ratings, do an annual study and research on how customers view and feel about their insurance providers. They gather data from policyholders and rank insurance companies according to their prices, coverage, ease of contacting the insurer, and overall satisfaction. J.D. Power and Associates also presents annual awards to the top-ranking auto insurer in their survey.

Look into credit ratings

Aside from looking at customer satisfaction, it is equally important to consider the financial strength of an insurance company to make sure you get your claims when you need them. To guarantee yourself of this, you need to look at an insurer’s history of credit ratings. A.M. Best Company and Standard and Poor’s (S&P) ratings are two of the most reliable rating firms in the industry.
Comprehensive auto insurance is a particular category of coverage and it is frequently obtained in a package with collision insurance. Nevertheless, it can also be bought independently. This type of car insurance is worth every cent because it covers almost every kind of damage that is not brought by the effects of collision. Mentioned below will define its benefits.

Serenity of mind

One advantage that you can get from possessing an insured car is that it gives you peace of mind. You can go on with your daily activities without the feeling of uneasiness because you keep on worrying about your car out there in the parking lot and such. You are also ensured with nights of sound sleep because you know that your insurance is looking out for your priced ride. It’s really a plague in one’s life when your car gets damaged and the absence of auto insurance will cause even more stress.

Additional safety measures

It is likely for every person to look out for his possessions and protect it from whatever damage or loss. However small that thing is, we will always take good care of these belongings. If we take precautions for little stuff, how much more those pricey things. That is to say, the more essential a property is the more extra security we set it with.

Savings

One thing that holds back vehicle owners is their perception that auto insurances are way off the budget. Yet, the solution to this is to be patient in searching for the one insurance plan that offers tremendous services in a fair price. This will not be so tough because of the steep competition in the industry of auto insurance plans that causes some companies to offer lower charges compared to the standard rates. You may try to check out discounted plans on the World Wide Web or other auto insurance plan outlets. Before deciding on the one to get, evaluate and compare free car insurance quotes coming from various establishments.

Compensation or replacement

While under the coverage of the comprehensive insurance plan policy and you incur damage, the company will find out how much the car is if it is stolen or how much the fixing of the damage will cost. After which, that amount will be subtracted by the deductible. The final amount will be issued to you by the insurance company through a check. This is the standard way of how comprehensive auto insurance works. To be sure, understand the vehicle coverage so you would be aware of what to claim for.

Defense

As indicated overhead, this type of vehicle insurance plan covers any car trouble that is not brought forth by accidents characterized by the collision with other automobiles. Comprehensive auto insurance specifically covers damages on account of natural phenomena, vandalism, non-moving accidents, auto theft, fire, damage caused by animals, glass smashing and falling objects. To sum it all up, this specific car insurance provides protection.

Most people only realize the importance of something when it is not the same as it was before. This also holds true in the matters of car insurance. Do not wait for the day when you’re car will incur great damage or loss. Avail a comprehensive auto insurance to protect your car and your pocket.
